NEW RELEASES OF SEPTEMBER 2013!

So this post is just designed to share with you the New Releases that are coming up in February that we like the look and sound of! Obviously we will lean towards our favourite genres but we will also try to throw in a book or two that are not our own typical genre favourites. I will also add a comment or three to let you know what I think to the cover blurb and reason for including in this post.

THE COLDEST GIRL IN COLDTOWN
BY HOLLY BLACK
Publisher: Little Brown
Release Date: 3rd September

BLURB from Goodreads

Tana lives in a world where walled cities called Coldtowns exist. In them, quarantined monsters and humans mingle in a decadently bloody mix of predator and prey. The only problem is, once you pass through Coldtown’s gates, you can never leave.

One morning, after a perfectly ordinary party, Tana wakes up surrounded by corpses. The only other survivors of this massacre are her exasperatingly endearing ex-boyfriend, infected and on the edge, and a mysterious boy burdened with a terrible secret. Shaken and determined, Tana enters a race against the clock to save the three of them the only way she knows how: by going straight to the wicked, opulent heart of Coldtown itself.

But Reeve is anything but normal.

After a lucky escape, she’s spent the last six years trying to rebuild her life, a recovery thanks in large part to her indispensable therapist Dr. Ezra Lerner. But when he asks her to help another girl rescued from a similar situation, Reeve realizes she may not simply need to mentor this young victim—she may be the only one who can protect her from a cunning predator who is still out there, watching every move.

MY NAME IS . . . . .  BY ALISTAIR CAMPBELL
Publisher: Hutchinson Cornerstone, Random House
Release Date: 12 September

BLURB from Goodreads
A drink makes me feel better. For a bit. And then I feel worse, and the pain inside comes back. Worse than ever.

My name is Hannah. This is their story . . .
My name is Kate. I am Hannah's mum.
'If nothing matters more to a parent than their children's health and happiness, how are you supposed to feel, and what are you supposed to do, when they're sick and unhappy?'
My name is Vicki. I am Hannah's little sister.
'Why does she drink so much, when it is making her so ill, doing so much damage to her life? I don't get it.'
My name is Sophie. I am Hannah's best friend.
'I loved her to bits those times when she was chatty and fun and making me laugh or think about the world differently.'
My name is Dan. I was Hannah's mum's first boyfriend after her divorce.
'I tried, I really tried. But there's something wrong with that girl. If I'd have had any idea of what I was letting myself in for, I never would have asked Kate out.'
My name is Amanda. I am Sophie's mother.
'She was like the outsider insider of Sophie's friendship group. I liked her though and being a parent, and a doctor, my instinct was to want to fix whatever it was that reduced her to this mess.'

SIX WOMEN OF SALEM
BY MARILYNNE K. ROACH
Publisher: Perseus Bks, Da Cappa Press
Release Date: 10th September

BLURB from Goodreads
Six Women of Salem is the first work to use the lives of a select number of representative women as a microcosm to illuminate the larger crisis of the Salem witch trials. By the end of the trials, beyond the twenty who were executed and the five who perished in prison, 207 individuals had been accused, 74 had been afflicted,” 32 had officially accused their fellow neighbors, and 255 ordinary people had been inexorably drawn into that ruinous and murderous vortex, and this doesn’t include the religious, judicial, and governmental leaders. All this adds up to what the Rev. Cotton Mather called a desolation of names.”

The individuals involved are too often reduced to stock characters and stereotypes when accuracy is sacrificed to indignation. And although the flood of names and detail in the history of an extraordinary event like the Salem witch trials can swamp the individual lives involved, individuals still deserve to be remembered and, in remembering specific lives, modern readers can benefit from such historical intimacy. By examining the lives of six specific women, Marilynne Roach shows readers what it was like to be present throughout this horrific time and how it was impossible to live through it unchanged

NOT A DROP TO DRINK BY MINDY MCGINNIS
Publisher: Katherine Tegen
Release Date: 4th Septemeber

BLURB from Goodreads
Regret was for people with nothing to defend, people who had no water.

Lynn knows every threat to her pond: drought, a snowless winter, coyotes, and, most importantly, people looking for a drink. She makes sure anyone who comes near the pond leaves thirsty, or doesn't leave at all.

Confident in her own abilities, Lynn has no use for the world beyond the nearby fields and forest. Having a life means dedicating it to survival, and the constant work of gathering wood and water. Having a pond requires the fortitude to protect it, something Mother taught her well during their quiet hours on the rooftop, rifles in hand.

But wisps of smoke on the horizon mean one thing: strangers. The mysterious footprints by the pond, nighttime threats, and gunshots make it all too clear Lynn has exactly what they want, and they won’t stop until they get it….

With evocative, spare language and incredible drama, danger, and romance, debut author Mindy McGinnis depicts one girl’s journey in a barren world not so different than our own.

So that's just 13 of the September 2013 New Releases I am looking forward to!
