ABOUT THE AUTHOR & INTERVIEW

Claudia Brevis is an author, songwriter, playwright, genealogist, historian, and new yorker.

What is your name, where were you born and where do you live now?
Thanks for having me, Sandra Jeanz!  My name is Claudia Brevis (my middle name is also Jean!) and I’m a lifelong New Yorker.  Living in NYC!

What is the name of your latest book, and if you had to summarise it in less than 20 words what would you say?
A Gazillion Little Bits is a dystopian sci-fi novel taking place in New York City in the year 2256.  Post-Apocalyptic!

Do you have plans for a new book? Is this book part of a series?
I don’t expect this will be a series, per se, but the novel I’m working on now is a spin-off, focusing on the rise and history of the mysterious Disconnects in the Gazillion world.

How long have you been writing?, and who or what inspired you to write?
I’ve been writing forever and I don't recall a specific inspiration, although my parents gave me the freedom to follow all my interests, so I thank them!  Although A Gazillion Little Bits is my debut novel, I've been busy writing in theater and music.  I’ve co-written an “American-Idol” type musical called “Showdown” that is being performed every cruise on two different Norwegian Cruise Line ships, and has been at sea for six years now!  My husband and I also recently co-wrote and produced “Winner Take All (A Rock Opera)” which played to great reviews at the New York International Fringe Festival.  (winnertakeallmusical.com)

Do you gift books to readers to do reviews?
Yes, I do, and I’m very grateful for every review.

Do you read all the reviews of your book/books?
Yes!  And I take them to heart.

How do you come up with the Title and Cover Designs for your book/books? Who designed the Cover of your books?
The cover of A Gazillion Little Bits was designed by the multi-talented Sam Tsui.  He also did the map inside.  Every graphic idea was his!  He’s amazing!

What do you do to unwind and relax? Do you have a hobby?
I’m a hardcore genealogist, and there’s nothing I love better than to dive into a pile of old church records or newspapers.  I’ve spent many hours wandering around my ancestors’ lives!  I also love to do anything at all with my husband.  We're both always so busy that when we have time to play, we take advantage!

Did you have a favourite author as a child?
Two of my absolute favorite authors were Edward Eager (Half Magic, The Time Garden, Magic or Not, etc) and E. Nesbit (Five Children and It)

Do you have a treasured book from your childhood? If yes, what is it?
For many years I managed to hold onto a copy of The Phantom Tollbooth, but recently realized I no longer have it!

Do you or would you ever use a pen name?
I don’t, but I might, perhaps, if I wrote something super scandalous.!
